George Mallinckrodt, LMHC
Counseling is a collaboration of equals. My education, experience, and training have made me an expert in the human condition; however, I am by no means an expert on you. I am simply a guide, mentor, teacher, and companion on your journey of self-discovery. However we have found ourselves intersecting in this time and space, it is mutually for our best benefit. My experience with clients has confirmed this many times.
With regard to fostering a dependency on the counseling relationship, my philosophy is that it becomes indistinguishable from being a professional friend. My sincere desire is to empower you to handle what life throws at you while enhancing coping skills and life strategies, discovering innate personal resources, and facilitating personal growth. In the course of our work, issues that once seemed overwhelming will become manageable. New issues that arise in the coming weeks will seem less daunting as the application of new skills will boost your confidence when you take ownership of positive results. Many have tried to give me undue credit for their successes, but I always turn it around to person who did the truly hard work - YOU!
Finally, in cases where there are deep rooted family of origin issues, incest, child abuse, rape, and/or PTSD, the course of psychotherapy can be predicted to take longer than cases presenting with more general issues.
I received a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami in Psychology and a Master's of Science degree at Barry University with a dual specialization in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.
